Fr. John's interests include art and art history, English and American literature, and youth ministry. 

John first professed as a Salesian in 1977, and was ordained in 1986. He has served as teacher and Coordinator for Youth Ministry (CYM) at Salesian schools in the Western USA and in Canada. He was part of the founding team of the Salesian Youth Leadership Connection (SYLC) in 1985.  He ministered as Province Vocation Director from 1991 to 1996, and as Delegate for Youth Ministry from 1996 to 2000.
